Is A Picture On A Webpage Worth 1000 Words?

Let’s say that a webpage is about remote control and one of your keyword phrases is “remote control” and you’ve got a picture of a remote controller.

When a visitor lands on your webpage you have less than 20 seconds on average to interest that visitor. If the total of the sizes of the pictures on a webpage add up to more than 500 K then you run the risk of making a visitor wait while your page loads.

A page of nothing but text on a webpage can appear boring to human visitors but automated programs sent by search engines to index your page (“spiders” or “crawlers”) see only text.

A picture of a remote controller should be named “remote-controller.jpg” (not “left_front.jpg”) and include ALT text (shown when the viewer places the mouse on a picture) that describes the picture as a “remote controller”. The words in the name and the ALT text can be seen and indexed by search engine spiders. Using your keyword phrases appropriately in the filenames and ALT text is savvy internal search engine optimization.

Lets say your webpage has a company logo, the company logo is named “ABC-Company-Logo.png” and the ALT text says “ABC Company remote control solutions”. Do not make text part of the image, instead use surrounding text and a caption to include text to your logo. Search engine crawlers can not see text contained within a picture itself.

Search engines operate by storing and retrieving information about many webpages. This information is gathered by automated programs, called crawlers or spiders, which follow any link they encounter.

When an automated program arrives at a web page it analyzes the contents of that page to determine how it should be indexed. Next the automated program stores information about the web page in an index database. Googles stores part of each of the original web pages as well as information about the web pages. When a Google user searches for “cream cheese” the term “cream cheese” will be on the web pages listed in the search results.

When the search engine user enters the phrase to be searched, called a query, the search engine checks it’s index database and provides matching web pages.

Ideally, a search engine will provide relevant results. There may be millions of web pages that include the phrase being searched for, so the search engine ranks the results to provide the most relevant results first. Search engines operate on a combination of algorithmic calculation and human input. An algorithm is a method for solving a problem using a finite sequence of instructions.

How To Write A Blog Post Or Press Release

Blog posts and press releases should present information in this sequence: (1) subject, (2) organization, (3) location, (4) advantages, (5) applications, (6) details, (7) source.

Compose your blog post with the most important information first. If a reader stops before the end, they have gotten the key facts.

The headline should be brief and to the point. Use the present tense. BACALA’S IS BEST ITALIAN IN GARDEN CITY PARK

Your first paragraph should contain all of the principle facts as well as the name and location of your company and what you’re announcing. “Baccala’s Restaurant at 2370 Jericho Turnpike in Garden City Park is the ‘Best Italian Restaurant’ according to the latest poll by…”

Later paragraphs should give additional information in order of importance with the biggest news earliest.

You can include a quote from a top executive at your company (manager, president, owner). Avoid cliches that start with “It is my pleasure” or “I am proud to announce”, and introduce an element that hasn’t been mentioned in the rest of the release. Keep it short. “We grow our own tomatoes and it’s the secret of our sauce,” says Head Chef Rocco Vitale.

Write in the third person – no “I”, “you”, “we” and “us” – use “it”, “he or she” and “they”. Acronyms and abbreviations should be avoided or clearly spelled out at first mention – Number One On The List (NOOTL). Simple language is best. Avoid buzzwords. When proofreading, delete all of the adjectives and adverbs you can. Don’t use industry jargon.
